IMPRESSIVE CONDITION CENSUS 1844-D HALF EAGLE GRADED MS62 BY PCGS/CAC
All half eagles from this mint are rare in PCGS/CAC MS62, and this piece is in the Condition Census for the date.
Splashes of warm apricot and olive colors appear on both sides and are most prominent on the obverse. The strike is absolutely hammered and the luster is strong. Just a few small marks which are totally consistent with the grade can be seen with most of these located in the upper left obverse field. This coin has never been lightened and it has exceptional eye appeal.
Another PCGS/CAC MS62 1844-D half eagle sold for $21,600 as Heritage 2025: 4770, and while it was nice, it was not as choice for the grade as is the present example.
If you are searching for a very high-grade Dahlonega half eagle for type purposes, this is the coin you want to own.
Ex Stack’s Bowers 2024 ANA: 3336 where it sold for $28,800.
CAC has approved two in this grade with just one finer (MS64).
