RARE PCGS/CAC 1841-D $5 IN MS61, ex Fairmont
Small D mintmark.t
Around a dozen or so exist in Uncirculated, making his the most available of the three Second Liberty Head Small Letters reverse (1840-1842) half eagles produced at this mint. I rank it as the 12th scarcest of 26 issues in high grades.
This is a properly graded coin with strong luster and totally natural color. There are scattered grade-limiting scuffs in the fields on both sides with none especially deep. If you like excellent detail, 100% natural color and overall originality, you should enjoy this lovely example.
This exact coin (see below) is the only PCGS/CAC MS61 1841-D $5 to ever sell at public auction.
CAC has approved this one coin in MS61 with just three finer.
