SCARCE SLIDER 1925-S DOUBL EAGLE
The 1925-S is one of the classic “melt rarities” in the St. Gaudens double eagle series. Of the 3+ million struck, well under 1,000 survived the melting pot and many of these show some signs of cleaning or mishandling.
This example has the naked-eye appearance of an MS61 to MS62 and it is very lustrous, attractively toned in natural medium orange hues and well struck. There is some bag friction seen on the high spots and some scattered contact marks but this piece wouldn’t make you think twice if it were in an Uncirculated holder.
NO CAC approved PCGS AU58 has sold in recent memory. In the last two years, there are a number of records for non-CAC PCGS examples in the $5,500-6,500 range.
An affordable alternative to an expensive Uncirculated 1925-S Saint.
CAC has approved six in this grade with 15 finer.
