I have seen some pretty impressive Deep Cameo Proof double eagles over the years but I can’t recall more than a handful of others (and none from the 20th century) with the degree of contrast which this example shows. It has unbelievably strong contrast between the frosted devices and the shimmering, reflective fields; enough so that this coin can literally be “seen across the room!” A few small hairlines in the left obverse field and a shallow mint-made horizontal line of the cheek are all that keep this coin from grading at least a full point if not two higher. The visual appeal is hard to describe and this coin must really been seen in person to be fully appreciated.
The best auction comparable for this coin is Goldberg 5/08: 4477, graded PR64CAM by PCGS, which sold for $66,125. Heritage 1/10: 2276, graded PR65DCAM by PCGS, went cheaply at $86,250 but it had very light contrast and lacked the visual appeal which the current coin has.
You would have to spend $125,000+ to own a slightly finer Proof Type Three Liberty Head double eagle and even at this price point you might not be able to find a coin with such monstrous eye appeal.
CAC has approved two PR64DCAM examples of this date with none finer.
