The 1890-CC is one of the more available later date Carson City double eagles. It is seen most often in the EF45 to AU53 range and it is becoming difficult to locate in the higher AU grades.
This light yellow-gold example is slightly reflective and it is very well detailed for the issue. The fields show almost none of the typical deep, detracting abrasions that are common to this date and the overall level of eye appeal is excellent.
The PCGS AU55′s have sold at auction since January 2012 when Heritage sold an example for $3,738. An NGC AU55 with CAC approval brought $4,113 as Heritage 4/13: 4420.
Carson City double eagles in the grade and price range are still in strong demand.
