If you track prices in the coin market you are probably aware that few areas have outperformed Carson City double eagles in the past year or two. While prices have shot up, I think that this is a market with “legs” as there are many firms selling quantities of these coins and many collectors now working on date sets.

This nice 1884-CC was one of the few choice, original CC double eagles that I was able to buy at the recent Dallas show. It shows rich natural green-gold surfaces with contrasting deeper colors on the relief details. There is a good deal of luster and both the obverse and reverse are abraded as is consistent with the assigned grade.

It is getting harder and harder to find appealing CC double eagles of any date and I’d suggest you grab a coin or two now before the supply is all but dried out.
