The 1883-CC double eagle is not as scarce as the 1882-CC but it is a much harder coin to locate than the 1884-CC. It is scarce in properly graded AU58 and very scarce in Uncirculated.
This is an interesting coin with a distinctly reflective obverse and a mostly satiny reverse. It has no real wear but there are just a few too many handling marks in the fields to call it an Uncirculated coin. That said, it has more “oomph” than many CC double eagles which I see in MS61 holders and it shows very nice rich yellow gold color.
The level of demand for nice CC double eagles continues to grow and, interestingly, despite a significant rise in prices I don’t see many coins available for sale. This seems to be a market with “legs” and I wouldn’t be surprised if nice sliders such as this become almost impossible to find in the coming months.
