The 1882-CC is a slightly better date in the Type Three Carson City double eagle series. It is considerably harder to locate than the 1883-CC and 1884-CC and it is not often seen in AU55 with choice surfaces and natural color.
This very lustrous example is choice for the grade with nice light orange-gold and rose color atop relatively mark-free surfaces. I have seen inferior coins in AU58 holders.
The last AU55 1882-CC $20 to sell at auction was a non-CAC example graded by PCGS and offered as Heritage 2/14: 5429; it sold for $6,756.
This date becomes very challenging (and expensive) in grades higher than this, making a nice AU55 a good value for the CC double eagle collector.
CAC has approved 12 in this grade with 13 finer.
