The 1876-CC is the most common Type Two double eagle from Carson City. It has become harder to locate in AU58 and Uncirculated examples are both hard to find and expensive.
This frosty light orange-gold “slider” has the appearance of an MS61 but there are a few moderate scrapes in the left obverse field and a thin curving mark on the jaw. The reverse is choice and free of significant marks.
The only PCGS AU58 example of the 1876-CC double eagle to sell at auction since the summer of 2013 realized $8,225 as Stacks Bowers 2/14: 3334.
High end CC double eagles such as this are currently in strong demand.
