Formerly a scarce date, the 1865 is now more available due to the S.S. Republic shipwreck. It is not easy to locate in collector grades, especially with natural color and choice surfaces.
This is a very choice coin for the grade with attractive deep orange-gold and rose color over lightly marked surfaces. Some luster can be seen in the protected areas and the surfaces are free of significant marks.
No CAC approved EF45 has sold at auction. An inferior NGC EF45 brought $2,585 as Heritage 2/14: 4834.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 55 finer.
