The 1865 is the second most available Civil War double eagle from the Philadelphia mint but it is much scarcer than any of the SF issues save for the 1861-S Paquet reverse. It is found in AU grades less often than the common 1861-P and should sell for a higher premium than it currently does in relation to this date.
This bright yellow-gold example shows fewer marks than normal for the grade and it has a good deal of luster present.
Only two PCGS AU53′s have sold at auction since July 2011.
