Old Green Holder. By today’s standards, I believe this coin grades at least AU53 if not AU55.

The 1860 is many times scarcer than the 1861 but it is seen more often than the 1857 and 1858 Philadelphia issues. It is not often seen above AU55 to AU58 and even less often with natural color and surfaces.

This coin was graded many years ago and even by the more conservative standards of this era, it is still a heckuva coin for an EF45. The majority of the luster is present, the color is a pleasing rich butter-gold and the surfaces show light abrasions only.

An ordinary quality PCGSF45 example of this date with CAC approval is worth at least $2,250 while a nice AU53 is valued at $2,750-3,000 and a 55 would sell for $3,500 or so.

An outstanding coin for the date and grade and a neat item for the collector who appreciates the quality of OGH Type One double eagles.

CAC has approved two in this grade with 34 finer.
