The 1860 is among the more available Type One double eagles from the Philadelphia mint but it is much harder to find in the higher circulated grades than the 1851-1853 issues and the 1861.
This piece shows little actual wear but the luster is a bit subdued, as is typical for the issue. The surfaces are very clean and the color is a nice light green-gold and pale orange shade. The strike is bold and the nakedeye appearance resembles a coin which grades MS60 or better.
The last PCGS AU55 to sell at auction was Heritage 1/13: 7484 at $3,672.
