As its reasonably high mintage of 577,611 business strikes would suggest, the 1860 is a reasonably common Type One issue from the Philadelphia mint. In the higher AU grades, it is available but not seen all that often with good eye appeal.
This clean example has the hard frosty luster common to this issue. Both sides are relatively free of deep marks and show nice medium orange-gold color with a pronounced rose-gold undertone. It has a nice appearance which is suggestive of an AU58.
For many collectors, this will be exactly the sort of 1860 double eagle which will fit well into their Type One set.
