The 1845-D is one of the more available half eagles from this mint but it is not often seen in the higher AU grades with natural color and choice surfaces.
This natural green-gold example has nice deep, even color on both sides and it is choice but for an obverse scrape in the right field. On the reverse, there are a few old marks behind the head of the eagle.
The last AU58 example of this date to sell at auction was a bright, dipped AU58 which brought $4,700 as Heritage 3/13: 4222.
A well-made and eye appealing example which would be ideal for use as a type coin in a Dahlonega set.
