COLLECTOR GRADE 1844-D HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL
The 1844-D is one of the better made and more available Dahlonega half eagles which makes it an ideal type coin for the collector seeking a single affordable example for his set. VF to EF pieces are plentiful but only a fraction of these show natural color and choice surfaces.
This choice example shows nice natural russet coloration on both sides. The obverse is a bit weakly struck at the center and shows just a touch too much wear to grade EF40; the reverse is choice with good detail seen on the wing feathers. Neither side shows any deep or detracting marks.
Only two PCGS VF35 1844-D half eagles have sod at auction since January 2008 and neither had CAC approval.
An affordable but choice D mint half eagle.
CAC has approved just this one coin in VF35 with 18 finer.
