This popular Civil War issue has an original mintage of just 5,000 coins. It is a bit less scarce than the 1864 and comparable to the 1862 but much harder to find than the 1861.
This medium green-gold example has traces of dirt in the lettering and very smooth surfaces. As always seen, there are pronounced clashmarks at the center.
The last problem-free PCGS AU50 1863 three dollar gold piece to sell at auction was Scotsman 10/11: 455 which brought $3,335. Only three have sold at auction since April 2006.
