The 1882-CC is the most common CC half eagle from the 1880′s. It is available in the higher AU grades without a great deal of difficulty and can even be found, from time to time, in MS60 to MS62.
This is a choice, original coin with a majority of the original mint luster present. It shows just a bit of wear and the surfaces are very clean with no marks of note. The strike, as always, is not full at the centers with the neck feathers showing noticeable weakness.
The last PCGS/CAC AU55 example of this date to sell at auction was heritage 8/11: 5553 which brought $2,300.
This date doubles in price in the next grade (AU58) and it is likely that most examples in 58 holders are not vastly superior to this piece.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 15 finer.
