NICE COLLECTOR GRADE 1876-CC HALF EAGLE
The 1876-CC half eagle is a scarcer issue, overall, than the 1875-CC or 1877-CC. Around 125-150 are known from an original mintage of just 6,887 coins with most found in the VF-EF range. Most collector quality examples of this date are either processed or show extensive surface issues and choice pieces are very seldom seen in any grade.
This smooth, evenly worn example appears to show enough detail to grade at least VF25 and there are an absence of detracting marks. Both the obverse and the reverse show nice natural russet shadings and the overall eye appeal is exceptional for the grade.
Another PCGS/CAC VF20 1876-CC–this one with a noticeable obverse pinscratch–sold for $3,738 as Heritage 3/11: 4768. A non-CAC PCGS VF25 realized $4,113 as Heritage 7/14: 4604.
This is the best available quality for this date at less than $5,000.
CAC has approved two in this grade with four finer.
