The 1874-CC is the second most available Carson City half eagle from the 1870′s after the 1879-CC. It is seen with regularity in the lower grades but not often with natural color and choice surfaces and almost never with good eye appeal.
This choice, evenly worn piece has the appearance of a full VF coin, especially on the reverse. It shows clean, evenly worn surfaces and is toned to a rich natural caramel hue. As is usual for this date, the obverse is weakly struck but this should not be construed for wear.
Heritage 12/13: 5249, also graded F15 by PCGS but not CAC approved nor as choice as this piece, sold for $2,115.
An affordable yet very appealing early date CC half eagle.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 21 finer.
