Variety 1.
The 1852-C is among the more available half eagles from this mint, making it popular with type collectors who are seeking a single nice example of this design for a set. While hundreds exist in VF and EF grades, few have natural color and choice surfaces.
This fresh example shows attractive natural russet and green-gold color with even wear seen on both sides. The surfaces are clean with no serious marks and this is a choice coin for the grade. To add to the “coolness” factor, the reverse is rotated well to the left; an unusual scenario for this date.
The last EF40 1852-C half eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction realized $2,300 as Goldberg 2/12: 1534; it was slabbed by PCGS.
For just a smidge over $2,000 you can own a choice, attractive Charlotte half eagle.
CAC has approved three in this grade with 25 finer.
