The 1846-D Normal Mintmark half eagle is far scarcer than its more popular counterpart the 1846-D/D and it is actually among the rarer half eagles from this mint in terms of high grade availability. It is exceedingly rare in Uncirculated with just three known to me and none finer than MS62.
This medium green-gold example shows some reddish hues at the obverse borders and s well detailed for the issue. The obverse is free of significant marks save for a small natural planchet chip below star four; the reverse shows marks as expected for the date and grade.
The only AU55 example of this issue sold at auction since July 2006 is ex Heritage 4/12: 6590. Graded by NGC, it brought $4,313.
