RARE BUSINESS STRIKE 1867 HALF DIME
Only 8,000 business strikes were produced and the 1867 half dime is a rare issue although a surprisingly high percentage of the total known (as much as one-third) exists in Uncirculated grades.
This example was likely struck from Proof dies but it is an obvious business strike with clashmarks in the fields and a good deal of frost within the reflective surfaces. Both sides show deep natural russet centers which turn to electric blue and deep green at the borders.
The last two PCGS MS64 1867 half dimes with CAC approval brought $1,410 as Heritage 12/15: 4198 (this coin) and Heritage 1/14: 3930 which realized $1,528.
A lot of bang for the buck.
CAC has approved three in this grade with nine finer.
