VERY SCARCE UNCIRCULATED 1915-S HALF EAGLE
The 1915-S is one of the prime condition rarities of the Indian Head half eagle series. Uncirculated examples are usually seen in the MS60 to MS61 and properly graded MS62′s are very scarce. This date is rare in MS63, very rare in full MS64 and it appears to be unknown in Gem.
This choice, fresh-to-the-market example is well struck and frosty with choice surfaces and excellent light yellow-gold and rose coloration. There are no dark spots seen and the cheek is rounded and free of wear. This piece has the appearance of some 1915-S half eagles that I have seen in MS63!
The last APR for a PCGS/CAC 1915-S in this grade was $8,519 for the Heritage 4/15: 6269 coin.
If available, a nice PCGS/CAC MS63 would cost in excess of $20,000. This makes a choice MS62 a good value, in my opinion.
CAC has approved 17 in this grade with 10 finer.
