The late date SF half eagles tend to be overlooked but collectors on a more limited budget who like higher grade coins should give this subset consideration. Amongst the various post 1879 dates, the 1895-S is one of the scarcest and it is seldom seen in grades higher than MS62.
This is a solid coin for the grade with small, scattered marks over natural caramel-colored surfaces. The luster is frosty as is typical for the issue while the strike is very sharp.
No PCGS/CAC MS62 has ever sold at auction. Only two PCGS MS62 1895-S half eagles have sold at auction since 2002.
Excellent value at just a smidge over $3,000.
CAC has approved one in this grade with only finer (MS64).
