RARE UNCIRCULATED 1892-O HALF EAGLE
After a 35 year hiatus, production of half eagles resumed at the New Orleans mint. Of the three With Motto issues, the 1892-O is far and away the rarest. Only 10,000 were struck and this issue is rarely found in grades below AU50 or above MS61.
This vibrant, lustrous example has fewer marks than usual for the date or grade and it shows rich yellow-gold colors changing to orange at the borders. It is well struck and free of wear with good eye appeal and a very choice reverse.
There are five ARP’s for the 1892-O half eagle in MS61 since the end of 2008 and this likely includes some repeated coins. The low record is $4,600 (back in 2008) while the high record of $5,288 was set twice.
This scarce date is seldom seen in grades higher than MS61 and this example has the best eye appeal of any 1892-O I have handled in some time.
