SCARCE 1884-CC HALF EAGLE
Only five Carson City half eagles were produced during the 1880′s. The 1881-C is the scarcest and the next hardest to locate is a toss-up between the 1883-CC and the 1884-CC. While seemingly available based n certified populations, in my experience the 1884-CC is hard to locate in collector grades, especially with good color and choice surfaces.
This choice, evenly worn example is a “textbook’ EF45 with good detail, a hint of luster and nice even wear. The surfaces are free of significant marks and the color appears to be unadulterated with even deep green-gold and a smidgen of dirt in the protected areas.
Only three have sold at auction since May 2000 which were PCGS graded and none were CAC approved.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 21 finer.
