The 1852-D is one of the three most common half eagles from this mint along with the 1853-D and the 1854-D. This makes it very popular with new collectors or type collectors.
This very attractively toned example shows rich russet and purplish-gold color which is suggestive of storage in a leather pouch. To the naked eye, the grade seems conservative as the sharpness suggests an EF40 to EF45 but PCGS has properly net graded this example due to some old but noticeable scratches in the left obverse field.
If you are a fan of richly toned southern gold coin, you will really like this piece has it has the sort of color which is seen on very few Dahlonega issues of any date or denomination.
