Arrows and Rays.

The Arrows and Rays half dollar type is to silver coinage of this era as the Type Two gold dollar is to gold coinage. It is extremely common in circulated grades and not really rare in the lower Mint State grades but it is very scarce in properly graded MS64 and rare in Gem

This attractive example shows uncommonly original envelope toning with dusky golden-grey hues on the obverse and the reverse. The underlying surfaces are very clean and wholesome with just a few small marks consistent with the grade seen in the fields.

The last PCGS MS64CAC example to sell at auction was ex Stacks Bowers 2013ANA: 4145 at $5,288. A PCGS MS65 with CAC approval, if available, could cost over $30,000.

Ex Heritage 11/13: 33722 (as NGC MS63+ CAC) at $5,875; ex Col. Green and Eric Newman collections.

CAC has approved 18 in this grade with six finer.
