As a date, the 1847 is similar to many of the Philadelphia half dollars from the 184o’s. It is common enough in circulated grades but it becomes scarce in the lower Uncirculated, rare in MS63 and very rare in MS64 and above.
This deeply toned example shows rich blues and greens over a lilac central obverse; the reverse is a mix of silver, russet, lilac and cobalt-blue. Both sides show light marks but are lustrous and appealing.
Only two MS63 examples of this date have been sold at auction since the beginning of 2009 and this is the only one of the two with CAC approval.

CAC has approved three in this grade with two finer.
