As a date, the 1805 is scarcer than the 1806 or 1807 Bust Right but it brings no premium in circulated grades. Nice VF’s are not rare but examples which are totally original and attractive are not seen with the regularity that they used to be available in the past.
This lovely “circulated cameo” show pleasing gunmetal and lilac grey colors with some orange iridescence in the fields. The wear is even and gentle while the surfaces are very choice for the grade. A clashmark at Liberty’s throat is a diagnostic of this variety.
A choice, affordable coin for the type collector who appreciates really nice original early silver.
CAC has approved 12 examples of this date in VF35 with 18 finer.
