The New Orleans quarters produced between 1847 and 1852 are all very hard to find in higher grades and the 1850-O is the most available of these five issues. There are a few dozen known in Uncirculated with most in the MS60 to MS62 range. The present example is outstanding for the grade with a rich golden-orange obverse center that changes to red and electric blue towards the periphery; the reverse is a deep pastel grey with woodgrained reddish overtone. A few small well-hideen marks in the left obverse field keep this from grading at least two points higher and the overall level of eye appeal is excellent. An extremely undervalued coin as are so many of the No Motto Seated issues from New Orleans.
The current CAC population is just two in this grade with one finer.
