The 1853-O eagle is common in lower grades but it becomes scarce in properly graded AU55 and it is rare in AU58. This issue is extremely rare in Uncirculated with just three known to me.
This choice slider shows very little wear with just some light rub located on the relief details on the obverse. The strike is razor sharp and the color is a pleasing medium yellow-gold. The luster is suggestive of a coin which has not been dipped or lightened while the surfaces show just minor, scattered ticks in the fields. The eye appeal is excellent for the date and grade.
Heritage 6/14: 4861, graded AU58 by PCGS and approved by CAC, sold for $10,575. In my opinion, the present example is actually a nicer coin with a slightly more wholesome appearance.
For most collectors of No Motto New Orleans eagles, this will prove to be an unimprovable example of this date.
CAC has approved five in this grade with none finer.
