The 1847 is one of the more common dates in the No Motto eagle series. But, as with all issues of this design, the 1847 is a condition rarity. It is not often seen in MS60 to MS61 and it is rare in properly graded MS62, especially with natural color and choice surfaces. In MS63 and above, the 1847 eagle is very rare.

This is a choice and very cosmetically appealing coin with rich natural russet and honey-gold color on the obverse and the reverse. There are a few small scuffs in the fields which limit the grade but it is among the nicer 1847 eagles I have seen.

The last PCGS MS62 example of this date to sell at auction was a non-CAC piece offered as Stacks Bowers 11/11:9684 which realized $7,475. Only two PCGS MS62′s have been auctioned since 2007 and neither was approved by CAC.

The No Motto Liberty Head eagle is an extremely challenging type to find in higher grades and for most collectors, this lovely PCGS/CAC MS62 1847 will fill this hole with style.

CAC has approved three in this grade with one finer (MS64).
