The 1850 is the scarcest Type One gold dollar made at the Philadelphia mint. It is many times harder to locate in the higher Uncirculated grades than dates such as the 1851, 1852 and 1853 yet it sells for just a small premium.
This borderline Gem shows just a few small ticks in the left obverse field. It is well detailed and frosty with pleasing natural orange-gold color.
No MS64+ examples have sold at auction. The last PCGS MS64 to sell at auction realized $1,410 in March 2015.
