The 1845-D is among the more available and better made quarter eagles from this mint, making it an ideal type coin for the collector seeking a single nice Dahlonega quarter eagle. It is not often seen in EF grades with natural color and choice surfaces.
This evenly worn example shows nice natural russet color and there is some dirt caked into the recesses. The surfaces show a few small marks as expected for the grade and the detail is clear on both sides. The eye appeal is excellent for the grade.
The last PCGS EF45 1845-D to sell at auction was offered all the way back in May 2007 and it realized $2,640 as Heritage 5/07: 3339. NGC EF45′s bring $2,100-2,400 depending on quality and appearance.
