Variety-1. Early die state with no cracks and rare as such.

The 1839-C is numismatically desirable as it is one of just two Classic Head quarter eagles from this mint. It is relatively available in EF grades but most in 40 and 45 holders have been cleaned or processed. Examples with choice original surfaces and nice color and actually very scarce and are in strong demand amongst multiple levels of collectors.

This example is one of the nicer collector grades 1839-C quarter eagles which I have seen. It is well struck with sharp centers and good detail noted on the hair and feathers. The color is a deep natural reddish-gold hue which is very pleasing and very even. The surfaces are choice and with just a bit more luster, this coin could grade 50 or better. The eye appeal is far above average for the date and grade.

The last PCGS EF45 1839-C quarter eagle sold at auction brought $3,738 as Heritage 7/11: 4567. In my opinion, the present example is considerably more attractive.

An affordable yet considerably above average example of this popular, two year type.

CAC has approved four in this grade with eight finer.
