The majority of 1895-O eagles were melted or shipped to Europe where they proceeded to be mishandled. When available today, the typical 1895-O is an MS60 to MS61 with excessively marked surfaces. This date is scarce in properly graded MS62 and rare in MS63 and higher.
This clean, frosty example shows just a few marks in the lower right obverse field but it is much cleaner than normal. It has a semi-circular ring of deeper color framing a dusky green-gold obverse center; the reverse is choice and has more even color. This example is far, far above average for the date and grade.
I am unable to find a single auction record for a PCGS MS62 1895-O with CAC approval.
CAC has approved six in this grade with just one (an MS63) finer than this.
