The 1894-O is the third scarcest post-1883 eagle from this mint, trailing the 1899-O and the 1897-O. It is scarce in properly graded MS62, rare in mS63 and essentially unavailable finer.
This bright and very frosty example shows far fewer marks than usual for the date and grade. Both sides show pleasing light rose and orange-gold color and the detail is very sharp. The reverse of this coin is exceptional and it grades close to–if not fully–MS64.
The only 1894-O eagle graded MS62 to be sold at auction in 2014 was an NGC/CAC piece which brought $2,115 as Heritage 11/14: 3119.
A CAC approved MS63, if available, will cost $6,000-7,000 and will probably not be much nicer than this choice coin.
CAC has approved seven in this grade with two finer.
