The 1888-O is the first With Motto eagle from the New Orleans mint which can be found in Uncirculated grades. It is common in MS60 to MS62 but it is scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is, to date, unique in MS64.

This is an usual coin for the date with semi-prooflike surfaces; most 1888-O eagles are frosty. The reflectiveness of the fields tends to exaggerate the scattered ticks which occurred when the coin was shipped loose in a bag. The only noticeable marks are a patch of lines between stars four and five on the obverse; the reverse grades MS64 on its own. Both sides show rich natural golden-orange color and the eye appeal is excellent.

A CAC approved NGC MS63 sold cheaply for $4,994 as Heritage 2/14: 5386 while a non-CAC PCGS MS63 brought $4,888 as Heritage 8/11: 5676. Two PCGS MS63′s with CAC have exceeded $7,000 at auction since 2011.

This date is unobtainable finer than this.
