The 1883-CC is, in my opinion, the hardest Carson City eagle to locate in higher grades and certainly with original color and surfaces.
This is one of the more attractive circulated 1883-CC eagles I have seen and it has clearly never been dipped or processed. Both the obverse and the reverse show nice medium green-gold hues with some darker color on the relief areas. There is considerable underlying luster and the detail is excellent for the issue, which is often found with below-average striking quality. I believe that this coin should have graded AU55 as its detail and originality are far above-average.
Only two 1883-CC eagles in AU53 have been auctioned since 2009. The last of these, ex Heritage 1/12: 6536, was decidedly inferior in quality to the present offering.
A first-rate example of this undervalued and conditionally scarce issue.
CAC has approved just this one example in AU53 with five finer.
