CHOICE EF40 1847-D HALF EAGLE

Variety 19-I.

The 1847-D is a common date in the Dahlonega half eagle series although it is seen far less often than issues such as the 1843-D, 1852-D, 1853-D and 1854-D. In collector grades, it is not often seen with choice surfaces and natural color.

This green-gold and russet example is well defined for the grade and has pleasing glossy surfaces. A good deal of dirt can be seen within the lettering on the reverse.

Only two PCGS EF40 1847-D half eagles have appeared at auction in over a decade and none have been CAC approved. Heritage 1/13: 7153 sold for $2,056 and this is the most recent appearance at auction for this date in this grade.

CAC has approved three in this grade with 13 finer.
