SOLD- $2.50 – 1879 PCGS MS66+ CAC
Serial Number 7830.66+/28501954
PCGS Lookup Number 7830
The 1879 is common in grades up to and including MS64. It is scarce in MS65 and very rare in Gem. I am not aware of a single MS67 (although one has been graded as such by PCGS) and only a few exist which merit the MS66 designation.
This is a wonderful fresh-to-the-market Gem which looks more like a 1907 quarter eagle than an 1879. It is completely original and extremely frosty with rich orange-gold and greenish hues; the surfaces show only the most minor marks with a small mint-made line near star ten most noticeable. This is the best 1879 quarter eagle I have seen.
Heritage 3/11: 4655, graded MS66+ and approved by CAC, sold for $17,250.
If you are putting together a world-class set of Liberty Head quarter eagles and you want the finest quality imaginable, this is the 1879 which you will want to own.
CAC has approved two in MS66+ with one finer (MS67)
