The 1905-S is a common Type Three double eagle which becomes very scarce in MS64 and is all but unknown in Gem.
This unusual example has the appearance of an MS64 but it has been net-graded by NGC on account of a fiber which was struck through on the obverse around the second star.
A PCGS MS62 with CAC approval sold for $2,585 as Heritage 10/12: 6310 and a non-CAC NGC MS62 brought $2,115 as Heritage 1/14: 7248.
CAC has approved eight in this grade with 18 finer.
