The 1893-CC is a numismatically significant issue as it is the final double eagle produced at this mint. Only 18,400 were struck and it is the second rarest CC twenty from the 1890′s. It is seen most often in the AU55-MS60 range and it appears to not have circulated with as much frequency as the other issues from this period.
This lustrous slider is notable for its originality. Both sides show rich natural antique-gold color with deeper russet splashes at the right obverse border. There is just a smidgen of rub seen on the obverse; the reverse grades at least MS61 on its own. The surfaces are choice for the grade with a few small abrasions in the left obverse. The eye appeal is way above average for the date.
Heritage 2014 ANA: 5735, graded AU58 by PCGS and approved by CAC, realized $12,338.
As nice an example of this date in AU58 as I have seen or sold.
