The 1890-CC is one of the most available Carson City double eagles and this makes it popular with type collectors. It is available in AU58 grades but not often with natural color and surfaces.
This choice slider has pleasing warm coloration, a good deal of luster on both sides and small, shallow abrasions. It is very pleasing for the grade and a viable alternative to a costly Uncirculated example.
A non-CAC PCGS AU58 sold for $7,344 as Heritage 4/14: 6963 and a non-CAC NGC AU58 brought $7,050 as Heritage 3/14: 30484.
An Uncirculated example of this date will now cost you at least $12,500, making a nice AU58 a better value, in my opinion.
CAC has approved 25 in this grade with 17 finer.
