The 1884-CC is one of the more readily available Type Three double eagles. It becomes hard to find in AU58, especially with nice color and surfaces.
This lustrous slider shows nice russet and rose-gold color with the reverse a bit deeper in hue than the obverse. It is lightly rubbed on the high spots of the obverse with very few noticeable abrasions or breaks in the luster.
A non-CAC PCGS AU58 just sold for $8,518 as Heritage 4/14: 6934 while a non-CAC NGC brought $7,050 as Lot 6933 in the same auction.
The nicest available quality for this date at less than $10,000.
CAC has approved 29 in this grade with 22 finer.
