The 1883-CC is seen less often than the 1884-CC but it is still among the more available CC double eagles from this decade. It is becoming harder and harder to find in nice AU as demand for Carson City coins increases on what seems like a monthly basis.
This very frosty coin has the appearance of an AU55 but it has been graded a bit conservatively due to some scattered marks on the obverse and a touch of striking flatness on the reverse. Both sides show rich orange-gold color and a copper-colored spot at the central reverse is mint-made.
The last APR for an 1883-CC in this grade is Heritage 1/13: 5235, slabbed by PCGS and not approved by CAC, which brought $4,113.
As a date, the 1883-CC is not often seen with “CAC quality” surfaces and it is worth a premium as such.
CAC has approved nine in this grade with 44 finer.
