The 1877-CC is numismatically significant as the first Type Three double eagle struck at the Carson City mint. It is a relatively scarce date and an issue which is expensive and hard to find in higher grades. Pleasing collector quality 1877-CC double eagles are infrequently offered for sale.

This choice, evenly worn example is notable for its lack of detracting abrasions and its warm russet color which changes to reddish-gold at the borders. For the grade, the detail is more than acceptable and the eye appeal is excellent.

The last EF45 1877-CC with CAC approval sold for $5,581 as Heritage 11/14: 3388 but this coin was exceptional for the date. A more realistic comparable is HA 1/14: 7148 at $3,531.

An affordable example is this better date Type Three CC double eagle.

CAC has approved 10 in this grade with 35 finer.
