The 1876-S is one of the more available Type Two double eagles. It is usually seen in AU and the lower Uncirculated grades. It becomes scarce in MS63 and it is very rare in MS64.
This fresh, original example is lightly abraded in the left obverse field but otherwise choice with pleasing green-gold color and strong luster.
A comparable NGC MS61 with CAC approval sold for $2,585 as Heritage 1/14: 7146.
CAC has approved 31 in this grade with 56 finer.
